To put it simply, a gifted child is one with exceptional native intelligence.
There are, however, a few snags. Only a very small number of gifted individuals excel in all fields equally. An example of asynchronous development is when a student is very advanced in one or more areas while being average in others.
Due to this, not all gifted individuals will have a uniformly high general IQ score. It is possible to score highly on one part of an IQ test while scoring below average on another part and still be considered gifted.
